What is a program partner? LBB proudly announces its first program partners: The ANU College of Law is one of Australia’s leading law schools. Established in 1960 as the Faculty of Law, the ANU College of Law is the 7th oldest of Australia’s 29 law schools, and has produced graduates who are now leaders in their chosen fields all over the world. It is also home to some of Australia’s best-known and most outstanding legal scholars and teachers, and to flagship publications such as the Federal Law Review and the Australian Year Book of International Law. The College also includes Legal Workshop, the National Institute of Social Sciences and Law, and a number of associated Centres and affiliated bodies. Australian Centre for Human Rights Education The Australian Centre for Human Rights Education (ACHRE) works collaboratively to develop strategies and tools for the promotion, adoption and enactment of human rights. Our vision is a society where people flourish and fully participate in society, as active and engaged citizens. Our emphasis is on empowerment through learning. The Environmental Defender's Office Ltd, (EDO), is a not-for-profit community legal centre specialising in public interest environmental law. We help individuals and community groups who are working to protect the natural and built environment. The EDO is part of a national network of centres that help to protect the environment through law in their States. Human Rights Law Resource Centre The Human Rights Law Resource Centre, Australia’s first specialist human rights legal service, is an independent community legal centre that was jointly established by the Public Interest Law Clearing House (Vic) and Liberty Victoria. The Centre aims to promote and protect human rights, particularly the human rights of people that are disadvantaged or living in poverty, through the practice of law. The Centre also aims to support and build the capacity of the legal and community sectors to use human rights in their casework, advocacy and service delivery. International Commission of Jurists (Australian Section) The International Commission of Jurists, or ICJ was founded in Berlin in 1952. The ICJ has long been hailed as the pre-eminent legal non-governmental organisation in the world, and is amongst the world's leading human rights NGOs generally. ICJ distinguishes itself through an impartial, objective and authoritative legal approach to the protection and promotion of human rights through the rule of law. The Law Council of Australia speaks on issues of national and international importance, federal law and the operation of federal courts and tribunals. The Law Council advises governments, courts and federal agencies on ways in which the law and the justice system can be improved for the benefit of the community. The Law Council also represents the Australian legal profession overseas, and maintains close relationships with legal professional bodies throughout the world. Through its specialist sections, working groups, standing and ad-hoc committees, the Law Council provides interest groups and professional development opportunities for lawyers across a variety of specialised areas of law. The Law Council, with the help of its constituent bodies and Sections, also presents major events such as the biennial Australian Legal Convention, and organises seminars, workshops and conferences on a wide range of legal issues. Established in 1855, the Sydney Law School has made a significant contribution to the Australian judiciary, politics and public life. Many of its graduates have become leaders in their fields including Prime Ministers of Australia, a President of the World Bank and Chief Justices of the High Court of Australia and the Supreme Court of NSW. The Law School is notable for its strong links to the practising profession, barristers, judges and solicitors giving lectures in core legal subjects. The Law School attracts high calibre students to its undergraduate and postgraduate programs and has an internationally respected faculty of scholars. The department works together to deliver an open and accessible justice system that protects and supports a fair and stable society based on the rule of law. The wide and varied services help to build a safe, just and supportive society. Transparency International Australia is the Australian national chapter of Transparency International (TI), the global coalition with a presence in over 80 countries. TI is dedicated to increasing government accountability and curbing both international and national corruption. TI believes that corruption is one of the greatest challenges of the contemporary world. Since TI's launch in 1993, corruption has become a global issue and the World Bank among others has credited TI's key role in achieving this. The Faculty of Law at the University of New South Wales in Sydney is one of Australia's leading law faculties. This is the third consecutive year the Faculty of Law, together with UNSW Australian School of Business, has achieved the top ranking in the business, law and economics cluster.
